Collection United States Elections Web Archive

About this Collection

The United States Elections Web Archive includes campaign sites archived weekly during the election seasons since 2000, documenting sites associated with presidential, congressional, and gubernatorial elections. The collection includes official campaign sites from general elections, special elections, and off-year elections. The sites archived in this collection typically include social media channels as well, in order to provide a fuller representation of how candidates presented themselves via the Internet to the electorate.

In previous United States Elections Web Archive collections the Library of Congress included websites of political parties, government, advocacy groups, bloggers, and other individuals and groups expressing relevant views – some of these types of websites are now collected and presented separately in the ongoing Public Policy Topics Web Archive; others that were collected during the elections are available in our general web archives.

Collection Period: August 2000 to present (this is an ongoing archive).

Frequency of Collection: Sites in the collection were targeted for capture weekly, monthly, or once.

Languages: Collection material in English, with Spanish.

Acquisition Information: Sites have been added incrementally since the project began and will continue to be added as they are identified.
